Andrew Coimbra is a Toronto based genderless ready-to-wear label launched in 2015.
With a strong focus on simple yet powerful design, in revisiting classic staples we are driven by conveying an aesthetic that is unique in its vision and realization.
We aim to play into the duality of the modern person: exploring both the classic and contemporary, and the more street and relaxed self.
About the Designer
Designer Andrew Coimbra began his career in Fashion Design by studying Material Art & Design at the Ontario College of Art & Design University before moving onto The School of Fashion Studies at George Brown College. With a strong background in fine art and pattern cutting and garment construction he made an exceptional impact early in his career.
Experience working with prominent Canadian labels Pink Tartan and Philip Sparks proved to be a solid base for his enriching internship with internationally renowned label Proenza Schouler, in New York City.
The eponymous label launched in 2015 when it was selected as one of five finalists in the Toronto Men's Fashion Week Emerging New Labels competition. Following positive feedback, the label continued to flourish; in 2017 it was chosen as a finalist in the 30th anniversary of the TFI New Labels Competition, noted by critics with great regard how the label walks the fine line of androgyny without feeling the need to embrace it fully. Most recently, Andrew was nominated for the second year in a row for the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Design at the 2019 Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards.
Andrew defines his design aesthetic as cool, refined ease. Strengthened by inspiration drawn from contemporary art and youth culture, combined with an emphasis on tailoring and a focus on fine fabrics, his work offers a new approach to the world of design.
